The Ultimate Packing Guide
for Exchange

Okay how on earth do I pack for a whole semester overseas?!

It probably feels like you need to pack almost everything right? But think of it like this - a lot of the same logic applies for Exchange, the same way you go on holidays!

  • You'll likely re-wear the same thing a lot (your favorite things of course!)
  • You will buy things while you're overseas travelling.
  • Packing minimally will help you move around more easily (especially for your personal travel before/after Exchange)

When it comes down to it, you don't need as much as you think! So no need to sweat the little things on your packing list.

Just ensure you have a clear understanding of where you are going and what you will be doing, to give you an idea of what luggage is appropriate. As long as you have the main things you'll be fine!
Leading up to your departure

  • Separate your clothing (i.e. t-shirts, jumpers, pants, etc.) into piles or use packing cubes and label them accordingly.

  • This will make unpacking your luggage or finding items easier when you are tired and/or pressed for time.

  • Review contents as you near departure, eliminating things you can survive without.
Preparing for change of seasons
You might experience really cold weather (or even snow) where you're going. A good tip is to wait until you arrive overseas and invest in a good winter coat and a pair of boots suitable for snow/ice when you are at your destination.

It will save you room in your suitcase, and you know you'll be buying gear that is equipped for the weather conditions!
